What services do we offer: Garden

Gardens for modern living are not just for entertaining relaxing and socialising, but also needs to be so much more - environmental, medicinal, educational, and productive!!

Our objective is to exceed your expectations/ aspirations offering innovative design & install solutions

Our task is to facilitate, never impose, it is your garden and your space, we are partners in creating a design that is perfect for you and your family

Chris is a designer with over twenty years experience and his passion for gardens, large or small, urban or rural, is undiminished.

Communication is at the heart of the business and Chris will be delighted to meet with you in your garden to find out just what you want. We can do as much or as little as you wish from design consultancy to tender or through to full turn-key installation complete with maintenance regime.

This is very much a two way process and gathering information is a vital part of the design process.

In a ‘new build’ situation Chris will be more than happy to work with you in the conceptual stages so that house, garden and landscape blend seamlessly.

Plans can be prepared from an initial sketch proposal right through to finished working drawings. Once the layout scheme is completed and agreed Chris can then prepare full planting layouts that take into account your personal preferences, soil type, location and micro-climate.

How we work

• Initial consultation; presentation of portfolio.

• Full site survey and analysis.

• Initial sketch design proposals.

• Final detailed plans, construction drawings and specifications.

• Detailed planting plans and plant schedules.

• Hard landscaping (complete garden construction).

• Soft landscaping (supply and planting of trees, plants and hedges etc.)

• Supply of individually designed and handcrafted garden buildings and artefacts including furniture, pots and statuary.

Design Consultation & Project Management through to Construction

Site Analysis

The first two tasks are to carry out a thorough site analysis and develop a design brief on which to base the overall concept, style and theme of the garden. This will involve discussions about likely use and function of the garden, your likes and dislikes, restrictions due to soil type, orientation of the garden and climate and preparation of a wish list of plants and features to be included.

We will take a full set of photos and measurements of the garden (in the case of larger projects a full landscape survey will be considered) and based on these prepare a thorough design brief and site analysis which is given to you for discussion before proceeding to the next stage.

Presentation Drawings

Once the design brief and site analysis have been agreed, we will prepare a set of presentation drawings incorporating the outline design of the plan.

This will include a scale sketch plan, perspective drawings and in some cases sectional elevations showing how the garden will look and a colour mood board with a range of images of features, finishes and planting.

Design work commences using pen and pencil and can be worked up to presentation using AutoCAD and Vectorworks (computer aided desusign) software. A bespoke garden design is created for you.

Included in this will be some outline ideas about lighting and audio. In most cases we would recommend a full lighting and audio design plan prepared either by us or by a specialist designer.

Preliminary Plans

Chris will present a sketch plan with artist’s impressions, based on the approved brief. At this stage, comments are welcomed and amendments can be made, ensuring that the client is totally satisfied with the final design.

Construction Drawings

Once everyone is happy with the design, the next stage is to prepare detailed construction drawings and specifications including setting out plans, technical drawings and specifications for materials on which the landscape contractor can base his quotations. We can cary out the work for an agreed price or you may wish for this stage to be tendered (see below).

Planting Plans

The next stage is to prepare a detailed planting plan showing placement of plant varieties numbers and spacing and a planting schedule. This document is accompanied by a spread sheet listing all the plants specified detailing habit, appearance and basic care for each plant as well as a photograph.

Final Plans

These are the plans from which potential contractors will prepare quotations for the construction of the garden. They show the details of hard and soft landscaping, structures and materials. Planting plans show exactly where the specified plants are to be located and include a guide for annual maintenance.

Tenders

Should the contract be going out to tender to a range of landscape contractors, we can prepare full tender documentation and manage the tender process on your behalf. Could include scanned construction drawings and plans.

Tender documents can be prepared and sent with the plans to known and reliable contractors who will then quote for the work. These quotations are checked and submitted to the client for approval.

Construction

To ensure that the design is faithfully carried out, Chris may monitor the construction work until the garden is completed.

Or you may want Inout to do the work: source the plants and materials and carry both the hard and soft landscaping, whatever way you want to do it - we are happy to acommodate.

So What is Sustainable Gardening?

This is much more than just composting and recycling
As experienced sustainable garden designers, we believe that a sustainable garden is one which fully integrates a range of bespoke products and services that have been chosen specifically for their environmentally benign qualities.
Do you want to acknowledge the problems with the world’s diminishing natural resources by using entirely reclaimed materials. Or do you want to make a bold statement about the need for renewable energies by introducing your own solar powered lighting system, for example?
Whatever your aspirations we have the range of skills and experience you need to help provide you with an outdoor living space that goes beyond simple aesthetics.

But isn’t everybody doing their bit for the environment?

This may be true, but this type of garden allows you to go so much further. It is your chance to be part of the green revolution, providing you with a sustainable eco garden that you can truly be proud of. Furthermore, your input into the design process will allow you to gain a better understanding of how you are making a difference.

What does a Sustainable Garden Offer?

Aside from the enormous sense of wellbeing and pride you will receive from a sustainable garden you will also be transforming your green space into something that provides you with a tangible commitment to the UK’s sustainable development goals.
Carbon footprinting is fast becoming an effective way of measuring your impact on the environment in terms of the CO2 you consume on a day to day basis.

Why not use your garden to offset some of your CO2 emissions?

Imagine a contemporary water fountain that doesn’t need a constant supply of mains electricity, or a summerhouse that is carbon neutral. We have the ability to transform your garden into your very own carbon footprint reduction scheme.
We can offer you expert guidance on every aspect of your garden. Where and how to source reclaimed materials; water reduction techniques; renewable energies schemes; the use of sustainable materials within your garden’s construction phase; how to use aggregate alternatives and most importantly, where to buy a manual lawn mower!
